These are the questions families ask me most often — the ones that come up after the basics are covered. If you are looking for monthly payments, refunds, or what happens in a medical emergency, those answers are on my Super Visa Insurance FAQs page: https://jubileefinancials.com/super-visa-insurance-faqs-jubilee-financials/
1. My parents are already in Canada. Can I still buy visitor insurance?
Yes. If your parents are visiting on a regular visitor visa and they are already here, you can still buy visitor insurance after they arrive. But most plans have a short waiting period for sickness when you buy after arrival, so a sickness during that waiting period may not be covered. The exact waiting period depends on the plan, so always ask before you buy. Buying before your parents travel is always simpler. Super Visa is different — the insurance must be ready as part of the visa application itself.
2. What does “stable” mean for pre-existing conditions?
“Stable” usually means no change in the condition, treatment, or medication for a set period before the policy starts. The required stable period is different for each insurer and can also depend on age. This is the detail that causes the most claim problems, because a condition that looks covered can be denied if it was not stable for long enough. Before you buy, tell me your parent’s full health history and I will check it against the plan’s exact stability rule.
3. Can I buy Super Visa or visitor insurance for parents over age 85?
Options are limited after age 85, and the rules are stricter, but options do exist. Premiums are higher at that age, and pre-existing condition rules are tighter. Call me with your parent’s age and health details and I will check what is actually available — do not assume there is nothing.
4. Is a medical test required to buy Super Visa or visitor insurance?
No. You do not need a physical exam or medical test to buy. Depending on age and health history, you may need to answer a medical questionnaire as part of the application. Answer it carefully and honestly. Wrong or incomplete answers on that questionnaire are one of the main reasons claims get denied later. If you are unsure about any answer, ask me before you submit it.
5. What is NOT covered by Super Visa insurance?
Every plan’s exclusion list is different, so always read it before you buy. Common exclusions include routine or non-emergency care, unstable or undisclosed pre-existing conditions, high-risk activities, pregnancy and childbirth, mental health emergencies, and alcohol or drug-related incidents. If something matters to your family, ask me to check whether that plan covers it — before you pay, not after a claim.
6. Should I buy $100,000 or $150,000/$200,000 coverage for my parents?
$100,000 is the Super Visa minimum required by IRCC — it is a minimum, not a recommendation. Many families choose higher coverage, especially if a parent is older or has health conditions. Here is why: I shared a real Toronto story recently where a visiting mother-in-law spent a week in Mississauga Hospital and had two angioplasty procedures in two days. Her family had $50,000 in coverage. The hospital bill was about $135,000. Ask me to compare $100,000, $150,000, and $200,000 for your parent’s age and health, and pick the amount that lets you sleep at night.
7. What is the difference between Super Visa insurance and Visitors to Canada insurance?
Super Visa insurance is built to meet IRCC’s rules: at least $100,000 in emergency medical coverage, valid for one full year from entry, from a Canadian insurer. You need it for the Super Visa application itself. Visitors to Canada insurance is more flexible: you can buy it for shorter stays and different coverage amounts, and it is not mandatory for a regular visitor visa — but it is still strongly recommended, because visitors cannot use provincial health plans like OHIP and pay hospital bills themselves.
